Traditional Chinese Culture


The Chinese culture is one of the world's oldest and most complex cultures in the world. It covers a large geographical territory. Each region is divided into distinct sub-cultures. It has its own historical root that forms the basis of its culture. The traditional China is a part of China culture which reserves the beauty of the culture. It is marked with its distinctive mode of culture which includes way of living, arts, dress, rituals, beliefs and science. The traditional Chinese philosophical culture has the greatest influence on the development of social order and political organization.

Chinese civilization has been built on the basis of family. The traditional family consists of a number of generations from the same ancestors forming a big family system. The kind of autonomous family system was the basic unit of traditional Chinese society. It is based on the patriarchal system. The oldest male in the house control the entire family affair. The son is the most important child in the household. The head of the house make family private matters as well as arrangement for the marriage. The traditional naming of the child is done after the father family name.

Traditional arts contribute a great part of the country's rich heritage. Chinese art has cherished excellence in its art. Traditional Chinese painting consist mainly of figure painting, landscape, flower and bird painting; Folk dance is the popular form of traditional dance in China. Music plays an important part in Chinese culture and it is based on melody. It is played on solo instruments like flutes, various cymbals, gongs and drums. �Bamboo pipes' and �qin'are among the oldest traditional instruments. Traditional architecture has distinct features in single building, building complex and architectural art. Clothes are based on ones status in society. Each social status has a different sense of dressing. The Chinese traditional clothing is referred as �Hanfu'.

Traditional Chinese medicines contribute a greater part in the country's rich heritage. It has formed a unique system to diagnose and cure illness. It is made of natural resources like plants, animal, and minerals. It has a great variety with complicated names related with the change of era and the difference in place. They find the patient condition through diagnostic methods of observation, auscultation and olfation, interrogation and palpation.

Traditional rituals and practices of Chinese religion are based in Chinese folk religion and Confucianism. The rituals mainly aimed at gaining a long life and immortality. They also worship their ancestors on the belief that it has the power to influence the fortune of living. Daily religious rituals are performed by offering prayers to �Buddhism' and �Taoism'. Their wedding and funerals often include elaborate rituals honoring deceased family members. Periodical rites are also performed at the family cemetery.

The traditional Chinese society is mainly based in a hierarchical order. The scholars occupy the most prestigious and authorative, farmers, the second as they produce the necessary goods ,the artisans belongs to the third rank as they possessed necessary skills ,and the merchants as bottom as they are concerned with buying and selling of things.. They enjoyed a higher status since they are considered as leaders because have the knowledge and wisdom to maintain the social order.
